I highly recommend the incredible guide services provided by “Rambling on the Rock”. Stig Yngve brings encyclopedic knowledge of Kodiak Island to his clients’ great advantage. Beyond that, his enthusiasm and passion guarantee a tremendously enjoyable time. We retained him to guide us on a family fishing trip and our sons said it was the highlight of their entire time in Alaska!
Thanks again for your excellent guiding and great personality. We had some very good, nice and exciting days when we visited Kodiak mid September, but without your excellent guiding and experience we should probably missed the entire show. Besides wonderful fishing, I personally, will never forget the moment when we faced the great Kodiak bear in the dried out riverbed and the meals you cooked for us during the fishing tours, not to mention when we spotted the mountain goats– splendid !
As a lifelong Alaskan it is easy to recognize a fellow outdoorsman whose skills are partially born and partially bred into the depths of his soul. Stig Yngve is long on good nature and the skills that pioneered this state. I consider myself lucky to share time on the Emerald Isle of Kodiak with Stig. He will take you to places unknown and supply the grit to return in one piece. A modern day nomad that walks on the strong back of actual achievement.
We arrived on Kodiak for three days and two nights with no plan, rain, and cold weather. My husband called Stig and that started a grand adventure and unforgettable memories. Stig took us all around the island and gave us the view from a true local. More than that, he took us fishing! My family does not fish. We had our 7 year old daughter who had never held a pole and our 10 year old son. As Stig said, the conditions were nautical. Cold, rain, and wind. Stig had all the equipment we needed and took us to some serious local holes. My daughter ends up catching a silver salmon that was our dinner that night! Stig was great and patient and moved us around to the best locations throughout the day. He cleaned the fish and made it easy for us. The next day he took us out again in less than nautical conditions but still rainy and cold. He took us around until everyone had caught fish. We had a blast. My daughter has all the confidence in the world to go fishing and my son swears he caught a ton of fish, but they just got off his hook. Without Stig, Kodiak Island would have been miserable for us, but now it is a destination point.
Myself and good friends did a remote river fishing trip with Stig. Hands down one of the best outdoor excursions I have even been fortunate to be part of. Stig was first class throughout-he helped us organize our gear months in advance down to the minute detail and from pack rafts and generators to specific fishing gear, Stig had all the gear on the dock when we showed up so all we had to do was strap in. Once on scene, Stig’s knowledge of Kodiak and the river was readily evident as we were into fish the moment we landed and he had us constantly “hooking up” for our entire adventure. Perhaps even more noteworthy was Stig’s attention to detail and love for his home island. Stig not only provided all of us with flies he had tied on his own, but tied each fly to our leader every time-full service indeed! Down to picking up the tiniest piece of cut microfilament, Stig ensured we minimally effected our environment while getting us into a mess a beautiful fish. Stig is a Kodiak gem-a true guiding professional with unique Kodiak knowledge and a contagious zeal!
